The program is built with professionalism, reliability, and respect for first responder culture.
Paws For Impact is a specialized initiative of Insight To Impact Foundation designed to support the emotional wellness of first responders through certified canine teams.
First responders carry extraordinary burdens. They are often exposed to trauma, chronic stress, emotional fatigue, and the weight of helping others through crisis. Yet many work in cultures where stress is normalized and support is underutilized.
Paws For Impact creates structured opportunities for connection, decompression, morale support, and wellness through the calming presence of trained therapy dogs and professional handlers.
These visits can support agencies through:
-
wellness events
-
shift visits
-
post-incident support
-
morale initiatives
-
training environments
-
community trust-building events

Who Should Volunteer?

My first faithful therapy partner Fletcher. We did hundreds of visits and saw thousands of people together for over 12 years.
I’d like to share something that is deeply important to me—and an opportunity that may resonate with you as well.
We are building a team of Certified Canine Therapy handlers across Michigan who are committed to providing support exclusively to first responders—law enforcement, fire, EMS, and at times, Veterans.
We welcome certified therapy dog teams and mission-minded volunteers who are dependable, compassionate, professional, and passionate about supporting those who serve others.
First responders carry a level of stress that most of us will never fully understand. It’s not just one difficult call—it’s the cumulative weight of responding to crisis after crisis, day after day, year after year. Over time, that kind of prolonged and persistent stress can take a very real toll on mental health. In fact, first responders face significantly elevated risks for depression, burnout, and suicide.
What we have seen—time and time again—is that canine therapy can create a meaningful point of connection in ways that traditional support often cannot.
A visit doesn’t need to be long to make an impact.
Even a few minutes can:
-
Provide a brief mental reset
-
Reduce stress and tension
-
Create a moment of calm in the middle of a demanding shift
-
Open the door to trust, connection, and support that might not otherwise be accepted
Our canines often become the bridge.
We are looking to grow this work thoughtfully and intentionally by adding Certified Canine Therapy teams who feel called to serve this population.
This is more than just volunteering—it is an opportunity to step into spaces where support is needed, often unspoken, and to offer it in a way that is safe, approachable, and meaningful.
If this speaks to you, I will welcome the opportunity to share more about what we are building, how the program works, and what participation looks like.
